Our desire was to start roasting the highest quality coffee that we could , pay our bills, and give the rest of the money away to organizations that we believed did a good job at living out the life of Jesus in some of the hardest places on earth.
We purchased a used air roaster in October 2007, found a place to put it in December, started roasting in February, and opened our doors in March 2008. Our first 9 months in business have been a journey. Support in our local community of Chambersburg, PA has been great and as we become better at the art of roasting coffee the support continues to grow. So far we have been able to donate $7,800 (25% of all of our sales) to non-profit organizations that are doing amazing things. Most of the money is going to South East Asia Prayer Center, www.seapc.us, from Oakmont, PA. We believe strongly in the work that God is doing through this organization and we are glad to be part of the work they are doing.

The name Abednego comes from the book of Daniel in the old testament. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were living in the time when the Jews were exiled in Babylon. The king of Babylon demanded that everyone must bow to him and worship him or they would be thrown into a furnance. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused, so the king got angry, and through them into the flames. A miracle happened, they lived, God saved them. These three defied a king, the most powerful king in the world at the time, and chose death over playing by his rules.

I am told our business plan won't work, but so far, we are roasting the highest quality coffee we can, paying our bills, and giving the rest away. Amazing things happen to green coffee beans when they are in the fire. Amazing things happened when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were in the flames and I believe amazing things can still happen when we decide to follow God over playing by the rules.
